Team Roles & Belonging to Multiple Teams

Updated October 16, 2026

People can be on more than one team

A user is no longer limited to a single team. Adding somebody to a team does not remove them from any other — a rep can sit on the Enterprise team and the SMB team at the same time.

Roles are per team

Each person has a role on each team they belong to:

So the same person can be Team Manager of Alpha and a plain Member of Beta. Changing one has no effect on the other.

Changing somebody's role

Open the team from Teams and use the dropdown in the Team Role column. The change saves as soon as you pick it. The member row also lists every other team that person is on, with their role there, so you can see the whole picture without clicking around.

A team role is not an organization role

This is the important part. Making somebody a Team Admin does not make them an organization admin. They get no ability to delete contacts, change billing, edit org settings or see other teams' data. The team role governs that team and nothing else.

Organization roles — Owner, Admin, Manager, Member — are still set in Settings, and are shown in small text under the team role so the two are never confused.

Who can change team roles

You cannot demote yourself out of running a team if you are the last person who can manage it — that would lock everyone out. Promote somebody else first. An org admin can always step in.

Removing somebody

Removing a person from a team only removes them from that team. Their other team memberships and their organization account are untouched.

The primary team

Some parts of the product — reports, the dialer — still show a single team per person. That is their primary team, chosen automatically as the team where they hold the most senior role. It only changes when it has to, so it will not jump around as you edit unrelated memberships.
