What this setting does
By default the power dialer draws from every contact in your organization. Turn on Dialer Scope and each rep sees only the contacts assigned to them — on the dialer itself, in the quick-filter counts, in shared call lists, and in the contact picker used to build custom lists.
You will find it at the top of Dialer › Settings. It is off by default, so nothing changes until someone turns it on.
Who can change it
Administrators always can. Managers can if your organization grants them the Manage call scripts permission — deciding who dials whom is the same class of supervisory decision. Sales reps cannot change it, and a rep who submits the form directly is refused.
Who the rule applies to
- Sales reps and members — always scoped once the setting is on.
- Managers, admins and owners — exempt by default, so supervisors can still work any list, coach from a rep's queue, or pick up an unworked filter.
The second switch, Apply to managers and admins too, removes that exemption. Use it when supervisors carry their own book and you want the rule applied evenly. It only has an effect while the main switch is on, and it is cleared automatically if you turn the main switch off.
Unassigned contacts disappear
This is the part worth planning for. A scoped rep sees contacts assigned to them — which means a contact with no owner at all is visible to nobody. If a large share of your contacts arrived through a CSV import without an owner, those records become undialable the moment you switch this on.
Before enabling it, sort your contact list by Assigned To and check how many are blank. If the number is significant, assign them first — either in bulk from the contact list or by setting an owner during your next import.
Shared call lists are scoped too
A manager can build one call list covering the whole organization and share it with the team. With scope on, each rep opening that list gets only their own slice of it. The list stays a single shared object — there is no need to build one list per rep — but it can no longer hand a rep somebody else's contacts.
Counts will drop, and that is correct
The numbers on the Call Lists page are calculated per viewer, so a rep who saw 19,949 contacts before may now see 400. Nothing has been deleted. Those counts previously promised a list far larger than the dialer would actually serve; they now match what the rep will really work through. Tell your team to expect it, or it reads as data loss.
What is not affected
Scope applies to the power dialer and its call lists. It does not change the main contact list, search, reporting, or who may open a contact record — those are governed by your existing role and manager permissions. If you need reps walled off from other contacts everywhere, that is a broader change; ask support.
